After two years of design, testing, revisions, more testing, and more tweaking, Abbey Bike Tools Chain Tool is dialed and ready to put a wide eyed grin on your face. We broke over 10,000 chains on a single tool and pin during the development of the new tool. That's 3 chain installs a day every day for a decade, hence the name "Decade".

The threaded body and lead screw are made from cro-moly and receive a low friction powder vapor deposition (PVD) coating to give it a silky feel you've never felt in a chain tool before. The nice large handles ensure ease of use with any chain. The freely rotating pin is made from a shock rated tool steel and will likely last as long as the rest of the tool. The chain tool comes with a spare chain pin in the handle and they are cross compatible with Shimano and Campagnolo pins should you find yourself in a pinch.

The greatest part of the chain tool has to be the interchangeable mid plate though. The saddled part that holds the chain in position can be swapped to work with nearly anything the industry comes out with. This ensures that your investment won't become obsolete when company "X" comes out with an 18 speed cassette in 20 years.

The tool also peens Campagnolo 11 and 12 speed chains to factory specs using a backstop that threads into the backside of the tool as a stop.

Compatible with 9-13 speed chain including the new 12 and 13 speed chains from Campagnolo and Shimano's XTR 9100. Mid Plates for 1/8" single speed chains and SRAM AXS group are available in the parts section.

Made in Bend Oregon.

Lovely bit of kit

"Incredibly engineered chain tool that works perfectly on the range of 10-12 speed chains in our arsenal of bikes."

Best of the best

"Best chain tool I've ever used! Absolutely top of the line quality, fit & finish. It'll last me the rest of my career, no doubt about it. Wasn't cheap but, for what you get, it was super reasonable if you are a mechanic that uses it everyday. Like all my Abby tools, it's the best of the best."

Casey C. (5/5)

Great tool, but I break so many 7/8 speed chains. .

"I really love this tool. It's great in the hand and makes it easy to work with 9 speed chains and above. And it just looks great too! But. . . I work with a lot of kids bikes in my shop, the majority of which use 7 or 8 speed chains. That leaves me grabbing for my old Park to break those. I was really hoping for once nice tool that I could use in the shop and move my Park to the mobile kit, but I've had to pull the park back out. Would it be too much to ask to make a plate for 6/7/8 speed chains?"

Indulgences

"Look, for the home mechanic this chain tool is probably overkill. But with its replaceable chain plate adapters it is future-proof for new chain tech. And it is also a thing of engineered beauty to hold and operate. Bravo Abbey!"

Well-designed, built to last and well executed

"The Abbey Bike Chain Tool is fabulous. I have owned many caribou chain tools over the past 40 years, but none that feel as good to use as the Decade Chain tool. Another well-designed, built to last and well executed product."

Flawless and Beautiful

"another 5 star review like all others. There's absolutely nothing negative to say about this beautifully crafted tool; it's on the expensive side but worth it. It is heavy and operates perfectly, I wax my chains so it won't see much action; yet it's a delight to hold it and appreciate its beauty/functionality."

TOTALLY AMAZING(THE GOAT)

"I first opened the box and just stared at this absolute work of art. Then to take it out of the box and hold it, feels amazing. It’s got weight to it, the feel on the hands. The handle twists so smooth due to all the threads. Just beautiful. Have used it in on about 10 chains now. It’s is absolutely the very best. A hidden pin 📌 in the handle, just genius. Thank you Abbey Bike Tool for another amazing piece of art to put in the drawer, sorry I mean tool."

Q&A

Is there some trick or secret to using this to install Campagnolo 12-speed super record rivets? I believe the 12-speed rivets are more fragile and they're breaking very easily when I am first pushing the lead/guide end through. Comparing this to Campagnolo's tool, I see the Campy uses a pair of pins to secure the link from the top and am thinking the Abbey, lacking this, allows a small amount of movement and the rivet may angle slightly up/down.
The best tip is to take your index finger and wrap it around the chain in the tool. This helps keep the chain seated in the tool and everything lined up. The Campagnolo install pins are pretty finicky so use extra caution when installing them.
